In a large bowl, whisk together the bread flour, whole wheat flour, and salt.





Pour the yeast mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Add the canola oil, milk, egg, and honey, mixing on low speed until combined.







Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough ball forms. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.



Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for two hours or until doubled in size.



Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a towel, and let rise for one hour.



Preheat the oven to 200°C. Whisk the remaining egg with a splash of water and brush the tops of the buns.





Bake the buns for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
