In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened.




Slowly temper the egg yolk mixture by gradually whisking in the hot milk mixture, then return everything to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it coats the back of a spoon.





Remove from heat and chill the custard base in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours until completely cold.

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream machine and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.


Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 4 hours to firm up before serving.
